Most of the wood came from an 18th century fireplace mantel with the body constructed from oak and blockboard with a mahogany veneer. The neck was hand-shaped and finished with an oak fretboard with inlays created from mother-of-pearl buttons. Three pickups were installed with a custom bridge and the tremolo was created from a steel knife with two motorcycle valve springs. To reduce friction the bridge uses rollers which allow the strings to remain in tune. Originally the guitar had a built in distortion circuit, adapted from a mid-1960’s effects unit and the switch for this was in front of the phase switches. Brian soon removed it and the switch hole is now covered by a mother-of-pearl star inlay.
